- There are three main concentrations for the major
– There are three concentrations which are Sports Media, Digital Video Production, and Reporting and Public Relations. I’m glad there are these options as communications as a major is very broad and having a concentration would be a good thing. I’ve also known for a while that I wanted to do sports media so having that as a concentration is a great thing for me.
- There are many in internship opportunities
– I learned more about the many different internship opportunities in the major. When I was getting recruited to come here one of the coaches always talked up the internship opportunities. I think gaining hands-on work experience before I graduate will be a very valuable thing for me.
- There is a very interesting Sports Field Production course
– There is a video on the website about the sports field production course. I had seen a video on instagram about this class over the summer and then I also heard about it from a teammate in my major. I’m excited to get to take the class as it seems very interesting to me. It also seems very hands on which will be cool.
- I learned about the average starting salaries for communications majors
– The website states as of August 2022, the average starting salary for a communications major in the U.S. was between $45,000–$50,000. This wasn’t too surprising to me but I was expecting it to be a little higher. It was also interesting to see how marketing managers had the highest starting salaries out of all of the listed jobs they had for the communications field.
