I found this activity to be very interesting and insightful. I was first surprised by the statistic that communications majors’ median salary is $6,000 under the median salary for all majors. I was surprised by this because I was expecting it to be right at or slightly above the median for all majors. I also found the statistics regarding the distribution of workers with a communications degree by occupational group. Outside of the “Other” group the highest amount of employment for an occupational group was management occupations. I think this makes sense as if you’re a communications major you should be able to communicate effectively with others and be able to work in a management role. Finally I was surprised by how one of the top employing occupations for communications majors was human resources specialists. Although this does make sense now that I’m thinking about it I never envisioned human resources being a possible career outcome for my major.
